Your problem could be simple as a bad connection to the aux fan as mentioned earlier by Flyboyy. Or, could just be a bad aux fan. I know for a fact on later years cars, if your aux fan is bad, there will be no power to the compressor, you can read the codes and it will tell you if you have a bad aux fan or not. 02- 530-Blown.
For whatever reason, after a while the AC just stops blowing out cold air. In addition, none of the car's diagnostics pick it up. Per BMW, they are currently testing the A/C Evaporator, as well as the wiring between the temperature sensor for the evaporator and the control unit in the car.
